Meet the team
Engineering at Gamma
Matt Carroll
Engineer
I was born on the east coast, raised in the Bay Area, and lived in California for most of my life. I currently live in the east bay with my wife Kelly, son Samuel, and dog Phil. I love spending time with family, drinking coffee, reading, and music.
Why I work at Gamma
For me, Gamma is an unmissable opportunity. I'm excited to build a product that unlocks creativity, productivity, and inspiration. Not to mention, working with the brilliant and dedicated team to hone my skills and grow together.
Tim Scanlin
Engineer
Born and raised here in the SF Bay Area, I feel really lucky to call this place my home and still have a lot of friends that live here. Currently I live in the east bay area, and in my free time I enjoy riding my bike, kayaking, sailing, hiking, playing board games, and doing yoga.
Why I work at Gamma
I've been following along watching Gamma grow since the early days and have always admired the product and the passionate group of people that are building it. But I didn't realize that I would have a chance to join and help contribute to building it, when I got that opportunity I knew I couldn't pass it up.
It is amazing to be working so many smart and talented individuals pushing to redefine an entire product category (and more) with a focus on good user experience and incorporating helpful AI features. It's truly a magical product created by an all-star team and I am so excited to be able to be a part of it.
Shriya Vohra
Engineer
Raised in North Carolina, now soaking up the California sunshine ☀️
Runner, bookworm, and escape room fanatic 🤓 Usually enjoying a decaf latte and solving the latest trendy word puzzle on the Internet! (currently: Bracket City)
Why I work at Gamma
I’ve always loved sharing ideas - whether it’s showcasing a new feature to my team or recapping a vacation with friends. Gamma makes it easy to bring those ideas to life, even for people like me who don’t have a designer’s eye. It’s exciting to help build a powerful and accessible tool, alongside a team that’s as kind and talented as they are fun to work with!
Jens Wilms
AI
Born & raised in the Netherlands, I've spent my life hopping around different continents, living in the Netherlands, Singapore, Taiwan, and now in San Francisco.
Why I work at Gamma
Building with LLMs is a fundamental new way of creating products. Nobody has a clue what they're doing and that is super exciting to me. Gamma is at such an exciting spot to work on this. Additionally, talking to our users always delight me - seeing teachers and solo entrepreneurs be super excited about a new feature you've just released is always bringing a smile on my face
Not sure if you know but Dutch people love sandwiches ;)
Samuli Kekki
Software Engineer
Originally from Finland, I'm now raising a family in the Outer Sunset neighborhood of San Francisco. I'm a devoted coffee drinker (quantity over quality), occasional fisherman, and a wannabe musician. I still marvel at how the Bay Area manages to stay green and walkable year-round — a welcome change from Nordic winters.
Why I work at Gamma
Working at Gamma is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to collaborate with kind, thoughtful people who bring talent without pretense. We’re building a fun and powerful AI-powered way for millions of people to express and share their ideas. There's an incredible amount to learn and room to grow.
Norbert Szmyt
Engineer
Escaped the CT snow 10 years ago for the Bay Area. When the weather is good, I enjoy hiking and biking. When the weather is a bit chillier, I make , play board games (Power Grid is my fave), snowshoe and watch hockey.
Why I work at Gamma
I have always worked where I found talented, passionate and wholesome people. Gamma has that in spades! Furthermore, I have spent most of my career building for Enterprise customers. Now I get to build for the people in a space that is both established (content) and cutting edge (AI) at the same time.
Josh Smith
Engineer
On my perfect day, I wake up early to watch an Arsenal victory, spend the middle of the day kayaking in sunny east bay, and then wrap up with a board game night.
Some days, (if my cat allows it) I also write code.
Why I work at Gamma
We all spend so much of our lives trying to communicate ideas, and I've often felt restricted by the constraints that standard documents and presentations put on my ability to communicate.
I'm excited about the opportunity to help people communicate their ideas more quickly while empowering them to have their own personal voice and creative style.
Sarafina Smith
Engineer
Born and raised in the Bay Area 😎
My favorite SF activities are: walking around Golden Gate Park, going to the SF Ballet, shopping at farmers markets, and trying new bakeries (my favorite food is bread).
I also like: skiing ⛷️ , hiking 🥾 , baking 🥐, and dog watching 🐶
Why I work at Gamma
Everyone on the team is so smart, passionate, friendly, and helpful! I know I'll learn a lot from the people here. Gamma has created a very positive and encouraging culture and it really feels like everyone is excited to come to work every day.
At the same time there are a lot of super exciting technical challenges to tackle, from integrating with all the new AI developments to keeping up with the insane speed of user growth 📈
Kelly Wallach
Engineer
Originally from Marin County, I'm one of the few remote employees at Gamma, now living in Atlanta, GA. At the moment, my free time is entirely dedicated to chasing my two butterball kids around 😍 .
Why I work at Gamma
The team at Gamma is unlike any I've met elsewhere, a close-knit group that pushes boundaries while staying playful. I get more excited about the problems we get to solve the longer I work here.
The problem space is fascinating too - PowerPoint has been around for ages, why hasn't it changed more? There is so much opportunity to explore, I'm stoked that I get to be on the team to explore it.
Javier Parra
Engineer
Originally from Mexico City, freshly arrived to the Bay Area in 2023. I'm a socially stunted introvert who's only hobby is collecting hobbies… and specialty coffee… and craft beer.
Why I work at Gamma
The tools that most people use to create presentations have remained fundamentally unchanged for decades. I think it's time to reinvent the wheel by focusing on how the problem has evolved over time.
I also love working with a team of such talented and passionate people who are always willing to teach and learn from each other.
Julie Barwick
Engineer
Originally from Southern California. Pianist, composer, and general music nerd. 🎹 Loves everyone's pets. 🐱 🐶 🦎
Why I work at Gamma
I've always been obsessed with tools that help you organize your thoughts. Having tried many different presentation tools, I love that Gamma gets out of the way and makes it easy to communicate something effective with minimal effort.
As a former piano teacher, I also really appreciate Gamma's culture of emphasizing learning, teaching, and sharing. I love being part of such a really talented team and getting to build something that I'm excited about!
Jordan Garcia
Engineer
Recent Hawaii 🌴 resident, Japanese curry enthusiast and aspiring Pickleball professional.
Why I work at Gamma
Getting to work with a group of close friends in a startup has been a dream of mine since doing it in college. I also fundamentally believe that the idea of a slideshow presentation is due for a modern revamp.
I am excited to continue to pursue my craft as a Software Engineer, with a team of great people and a product I truly believe in.
Travis Beck
Engineer
I'm a parent/nerd doing parent/nerd things in and around San Francisco. Former Seattle, New York, and Boston resident.
Why I work at Gamma
How often do you get to explore a space as fundamental and high-touch as documents and presentations? Once I realized that docs and slides are really the same basic format with different page-break semantics I couldn't un-see it. We're building something new that has the potential to profoundly change the way people work. Our team is incredibly talented, well-balanced and super fun to work with and the product we are working on feels like something that the world really needs.
Ali Rizvi
Engineer
Originally from Lucknow, India 🇮🇳In the Bay Area since 2013. Mayor of my local coffee shop (that is what Foursquare tells me).
Why I work at Gamma
I am excited to be at Gamma because I believe we are defining a medium that will allow people to express their ideas effectively with high impact. Also, the team is super nice and fun to work with.
I am stoked about being on the ground floor as we lay the foundation of something that will hopefully (🤞) change the way people express themselves.
Jessica Chong
Engineer
I grew up in 🇭🇰 Hong Kong and 🇨🇦Toronto. Identical twin, dog mom, sewing addict, and 138 wpm typist.
I started making websites in the late 90s and had no idea you could do this for your job!
Why I work at Gamma
I want to empower others to advocate for their ideas. I have a terrible fear of public speaking, but have seen how giving presentations has moved the needle on my career (and life) in a tangible way: by giving me credibility and influence, by making my work visible, and by giving me the opportunity to move people. I want others to experience the life changing magic of presentations!
